WHO WE ARE

Founded in Australia by Hilary White in 1979, Elmstock specialises in the sale of premium quality teas, sourced from all the world’s major tea growing countries and regions. Fruit and herbal infusions which are a growing part of our business are imported from leading producers in Europe. Elmstock Tea Company has a rich tradition of continuous involvement in the tea trade spanning six generations.

HISTORY

However, the family’s ancestry and it’s participation in the agricultural pursuits of the island of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) precedes the tea industry of Ceylon and can be traced back to the early nineteenth century.

Initially sugar cultivation in the Peredeniya (Kandy) district followed by coffee cultivation proceeded the commencement of tea plantations in the Dimbula, Galaha and Gampola regions in the 1870’s.

The Story of the family ancestry from such diverse countries as England, France, Holland and India who settled and developed plantations in the beautiful hill country of Sri Lanka and then married local ladies from the Sinhalese and Tamil populations makes for a rich and interesting history which now continues with it’s Australian business.

THE ELMSTOCK QUALITY GUARANTEE

Elmstock sources its tea from the finest tea gardens. Connoisseurs of tea will readily recognise its quality, fresh flavour and distinctive aroma. To make a good cup of tea actually requires a smaller amount of tea than cheaper varieties (worth remembering when comparing prices!). Elmstock teas are guaranteed to be distinctively ‘fresher’.

Elmstock Premium Quality Tea is sold by specialty gourmet shops and served by quality restaurants and cafes. It is generally not available in supermarkets.

THE BEST TEA IS NOT IN SUPERMARKETS!

Like fine wine, the quality of tea depends on climatic conditions, regional characteristics, the expertise of the plantation manager and the blender. But, also like a good wine there is only a limited quantity of premium tea available, which is why many of the cheap supermarket teas generally lack quality. In spite of what they claim, mass produced commercial brands are ‘blended down’ to meet pricing competition and the consumer is therefore deprived of the best quality teas, which are only slightly more expensive.

OUR BUSINESS

Nigel White is the Managing Director of Elmstock Tea Company. Hilary White remains a Director and participates mainly in the financial and marketing aspects of the business.

In addition to our Wholesale operation, which is the major part of our business, we have retail outlets in Balcatta, WA. We also have distributors in all states of Australia, New Zealand and also export to Singapore and Papua New Guinea.

Our active and interesting website also ensures that Elmstock Tea and related tea products are not only supplied to all parts of Australia but right round the world.

Hilary White and Nigel White regularly visit our sources of supply to ensure that our high standards of quality and packaging are maintained.
